Winter Carnival
Ice Palace, January 2004, St. Paul, Minnesota Ice Palace was built using 27,000 blocks of ice weighing 500 pounds each. Over 700 volunteers built it. Ice was harvested from a local lake and trucked to the downtown St. Paul construction site. Ice blocks were welded together using blow torches. When completed, visitors were able to go inside the palace grounds and through the palace. Photo album shows the construction process and daylight, dusk, and night photos of the completed palace.
