The First Few Days in Vietnam

In October, 1967, I flew from Travis Air Force Base in California to Tan Son Nhut Airport in Saigon, Vietnam.  The change in weather was extraordinary (extremely hot and humid).  I stayed at the Annapolis Hotel in Saigon for about two weeks waiting for transportation to my new unit (USS Hunterdon County, LST 838).  During this time newbies like me really stood out because we did not have our green or camouflage uniforms yet - we were still wearing standard Navy uniforms with white Dixie cup hats.  During my wait for transportation to the Hunterdon County on Mekong Delta River Patrol, I did take in a few sights in Saigon.  At the time, all I had was a really cheap Kodak instamatic camera, but I still got few fairly good photos.  Click on each small photo to see a larger photo, then click on your "Back" button to return to this album page.
